Walking into this presentation, I had no idea what to expect. I had never seen any of Woolfalk's work before and the only hint I had going in was that she used a lot of multimedia. However, I wasn't expecting what followed in the presentation.
Woolfalk's process of imagining, researching, creating, and building "No Place" was like nothing I had ever heard of before. She was so well versed in the language that she created that sometimes I wasn't convinced that No Place was simply a fictional world. I was inspired by the fact that she took this idea in her head and built a career and a living for herself out of it. It makes any person realize that their dreams are attainable... because if Woolfalk can take her idea and build a whole new world and life for herself than so can you or I with our ideas, no matter how crazy they may seem.
Another aspect I found so interesting was her confidence on the stage talking about her ideas. Anyone can tell that it is a little out there, but that doesn't stop her from sharing it with the world. She was okay with making the audience uncomfortable... she was okay that maybe not everyone would totally understand, but it would resonate with everyone in the audience. Overall, I thought that Woolfalk presentation, while conceptually is pretty far from what I want to do, hit the nail on the head for the experience I, and any artist or designer, want my viewers to have.
