MACRO V MICRO

Macro in design is the bigger picture, micro is the smaller picture. Big v small, far out v up close etc. In this project, we are taking a look at nature and making a design of twenty pieces that together create a beautiful design, but can still hold their own.

For this project, I took nature in its most literal meaning: the earth. Without the earth, without nature, none of us would be here. The fashion industry is notorious for over production, which either sits on sales racks or ends up in landfills. In fact, the                                                                      (WRAP) out of the United Kingdom did a study that found the average piece of clothing had a lifespan of 3.3 years. The same group also found that 1.13 million tons of clothing was produced in 2016.

How does this affect "nature" or as I'm seeing it, the Earth?  In more of their research, WRAP found that the average amount of clothes that each household has generated the same amount of greenhouse gases during production as driving the average modern car            miles. In addition, in the United Kingdom alone an estimated 150 million euros, or 350,000 tons of clothes, go into landfills each year. With that said, the fashion industry's carbon footprint is growing to nearly that of the plastic crisis.

For this project, I decided to look at designers who are taking steps to help reduce this rapidly evolving problem as my inspiration. Vetements, a luxury streetwear brand based in Paris, has gone above and beyond to speak out about what has being going on behind closed doors in the fashion industry. From a pile of clothes being the                                   window display to bringing the men's and women's collection on one runway for their spring/summer '17 collection, to bringing down their production numbers each year, Vetements is leading the conversation on responsible production. By starting this conversation the brand has launched their company into the spotlight and increased popularity more than they have ever seen before.

Vetements Spring/Summer '17

Project

For my photos, I decided to focus on how nature provides for humans. I went to the Forsyth Farmer's Market to get my photo material.

Next Level

To take this project to the next level, I took three of my favorite pictures from the farmer's market and three of my favorite looks from Vetement's spring/summer '17 show to make three new designs of my own.
